Open House: Saturday – February 24, 2024, 8:00 am – 12:30 pm
Lemon Bay Conservancy invites you to join us for a free, public “Open House” at Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve on Saturday, February 24th. The Preserve is an 80-acre former golf course that has been restored as a nature preserve. Come explore the preserve with our nature guides, visit displays by local environmental groups, and enjoy hands-on environmental activities. All are welcome!
Guided Trail Walks with our knowledgeable guides will leave at various times throughout the event.
- Our first walk of the day, the “Early Bird” Birding Walk, will depart at 8:00 am to observe some of the upland and wetland bird species that frequent the preserve.
- Other planned walks include Introduction to Preserve Habitats, Plant Succession after Restoration, Florida Butterflies, and Native Plants at LCWP. Click on this link to see, save, or print the scheduled walk start times: 2024 Open House Schedule.
Short Environmental Talks will include: Preserve Restoration Update, How to Make Natural Bug Spray, Nesting Sea Turtles on Our Beaches, Juvenile Tarpon Research and Wildlife Rescue.
Hands-on activities will include a Freshwater Exploration and Oyster Garden Stringing.
Information Displays will be available from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm for visitors to learn more about environmental and service organizations in our area. Expected participants include: the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center, Florida Wildlife Conservation, the Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Perserve, Coastal Wildlife Club and the LBHS Marine Science Club.
Special Golf Cart Tours will be offered several times during the day for visitors who may have difficulty walking the trails. Space is limited. To sign-up for a tour time, visit the LBC booth.
Self-Guided Walks: The nature trails, the butterfly habitat, the bird observation area, and the labyrinth will be open throughout the day for guests to visit and enjoy.
Refreshments: El Joe Bean Coffee will be offering coffee drinks and smoothies for purchase.
Visitors should wear shoes, hats and clothing appropriate for a nature hike over rough terrain. To protect our wildlife and habitats, pets and bikes are not permitted on the trails or in the event meeting area.
