Exploration Day: Saturday – February 8, 2025, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
Lemon Bay Conservancy invites you to join us for a free, public “Exploration Day” at Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve on Saturday, February 8th. The Preserve is an 80-acre former golf course that has been restored as a nature preserve. Come explore the preserve with our nature guides, visit displays by local environmental groups, and enjoy hands-on environmental activities. All are welcome!
Guided Trail Walks with our knowledgeable guides will leave at various times throughout the event.
- Our first walk of the day, the “Early Bird” Birding Walk, will depart at 8:00 am to observe some of the upland and wetland bird species that frequent the preserve. (Display booths and other activities begin at 8:30.)
- Other planned walks include Preserve Habitats, Choosing Plants for Restoration, Florida Butterflies at the Preserve, The Preserve Ecosystem, and Introduction to Wildflower Preserve. Visit the schedule link shown below to view or print scheduled walk start times.
Environmental Talks & Activities: Short presentation topics will include: UF/IFAS Seagrass, Keep Charlotte Beautiful, Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center, DEP Water Quality, Juvenile Tarpon Research, Mangrove Chapter Florida Native Plant Society.
Activities: Gardening for Butterflies, Vertical Oyster Gardens, Point of Interest Videos.
Information Displays will be available from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm for visitors to learn more about environmental and gardening organizations in our area. Expected participants include: UF/IFAS Seagrass, DEP Water Quality, Wildlife Center of Venice, Mangrove Chapter Florida Native Plant Society, Keep Charlotte Beautiful, Peace River Wildlife Center, Englewood Orchid Society, Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center, LBC BayWatch Committee.
Special Golf Cart Tours will be offered leaving every half hour beginning at 8:45 for visitors who may have difficulty walking the trails. Space is limited. To sign-up for a tour time, visit the parking lot kiosk.
Self-Guided Walks: The nature trails, the butterfly habitat, the bird observation area, and the labyrinth will be open throughout the event for guests to visit and enjoy. Visitors should wear shoes, hats and clothing appropriate for a nature hike over rough terrain. To protect our wildlife and habitats, pets and bikes are not permitted on the trails or in the event meeting area.
