Wildflower Preserve Restoration Update – Late July 2020
The habitat restoration project at Wildflower Preserve is continuing to progress well.
The photo below, taken July 24, 2020, provides a view looking south over the western half of the preserve. The project general contractor is currently working to create additional north-south estuarine wetlands just east of Lemon Creek and to develop a shallower marsh area near the northwest corner of the property.

The uplands throughout the preserve have been mowed and an initial round of treatment to control invasive plants has been completed. The objective is to reduce the heavy growth of undesirable species on the site in preparation for native planting activities later this year.
The before and after photos below provide an example of how the mowing contractor worked around native trees and shrubs while clearing the overgrowth.
Wildflower Preserve is owned by Lemon Bay Conservancy. This major restoration project is funded by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (the District), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Lemon Bay Conservancy (LBC) members and donors. The District is also providing project management.
