Our New 2024 Lemon Bay Coastal Seminar Series February 13, 2024 Admin LBC is excited to announce our new 2024 Lemon Bay Coastal Seminar Series! LBC member and volunteer Rob Robbins, a marine biologist, has scheduled four outstanding speakers on interesting and important topics related to our beautiful, but fragile, local ecosystems.The first seminar will immediately follow our LBC Annual Meeting on January 25th, with additional monthly sessions through April.Our speakers, topics, and dates are: Tonya Wiley, Havenworth Coastal Conservation, “The Endangered Sawfish of Florida: Past, Present, and Future” (January 25th) Jessica Pate, Lead Scientist, Florida Manta Project, “The Mysterious Manta Rays of Florida” (Feb 22nd) Larry Brand, Professor, University of Miami Rosenstiel School, “Blooms of Blue-green Algae and Red Tide in South Florida” (March 14th) Jerry Lorenz, State Director of Research, Florida Audubon, “Roseate Spoonbills in Florida Bay – A Pink Canary in a Coal Mine” (April 11th) All programs will be held at the Cape Haze Community Center located at 180 Spyglass Alley, Placida, FL 33946, at the intersection of Spyglass Alley and Spaniards Road. Parking is available on both streets. To reach the Community Center from Placida Road (Hwy. 775), turn west onto Cape Haze Drive. At the traffic circle, take the first right (heading north) onto Spaniards Rd. The Community Center will be just ahead on your left. Refreshments will be available at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:00 p.m. The seminars are free and open to the public. We are currently seeking sponsors to help us cover the costs for these seminars and hosts who are willing to house the visiting speakers.
