DESCRIPTION:Maura Qualls and Ann Weaver will lead a walking tour through the Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve Butterfly Habitat at 9:00 am\, meeting at the Members entrance area. Join us as we examine the many plants\, flowers\, and pollinators that are present in our garden. We will offer discussions on how you can establish your own native butterfly and pollinator habitat and will provide an up-close look at nectar and host plants\, both native and Florida friendly. Please bring your binoculars\, cameras\, water bottles\, sunscreen\, and bug repellent. All participants should wear comfortable\, protective attire\, especially footwear.

SUMMARY:Exploration Day - Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, February 14\, 2026\, Lemon Bay Conservancy will host its annual “Exploration Day” Nature Festival at Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve.  This year\, we’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day and the 5th anniversary of our reopening of the restored preserve.  The free event begins with an “Early Bird” guided bird at 8:00 am.  Guided nature walks on various topics will continue throughout the morning.   Local environmental groups will provide information exhibits and offer hands-on exhibits.  Everyone is invited to attend this free\, community-wide event. \nLemon Creek Wildflower Preserve is an 80-acre former golf course with numerous freshwater ponds and the Lemon Creek estuary.  It was purchased by Lemon Bay Conservancy in 2010 with the goal of providing a refuge for wildlife and opportunities for environmental education and scientific research.  The preserve has been restored to native habitats in partnership with the Southwest Water Management District and NOAA. \nLemon Bay Conservancy is a non-profit organization managed by volunteers and funded by donations\, memberships and grants. \n\nThe Preserve is located at 3120 Gasparilla Pines Boulevard\, Englewood\, FL 34224. \nClick here to see a post with additional event details: Exploration Day 2026

SUMMARY:Introduction to Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve
DESCRIPTION:A 1-hour guided walk along mowed trails through diverse upland habitats and freshwater ponds that connect to brackish Lemon Creek.  Visitors can observe native and Florida-friendly plants\, vibrant wildflowers\, and butterflies in dedicated habitats\, while spotting upland and wading birds\, insects\, reptiles and other wildlife.  We discuss ongoing research such as the juvenile Tarpon “net pull”.  Highlights often include panoramic views from the Labyrinth on the Hill and insights into ongoing habitat restoration efforts\, providing an engaging overview of LBC’s Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve.

SUMMARY:Paddle Myakka River at Bob Johnson Park
DESCRIPTION:  \nLBC members and their guests are invited to paddle with us on a 2 hour paddle on the Myakka River where we will explore the area. \nTentative push-off time is 9:30 am depending on tide and weather conditions. This excursion is an advanced paddle and recommended for more experienced paddlers. All participants must provide their own equipment: kayak or paddle board\, paddles\, pfd\, hat\, whistle\, water bottle\, sunscreen\, bug spray and sense of humor. \nAll kayak tours are limited to LBC members and their accompanying guests. DESCRIPTION:Attention all new and returning Tarpon net pull volunteers\, are invited to participate in our  Tarpon pull event.  We will first need to load the seine net and other equipment in the Jon boat before using our UTV to tow the boat over to the ponds located by Fiddlers Green. Please use the Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve parking lot and plan to meet at the equipment shed at 7:45 am. After we have finished loading up\, you can then drive your vehicle over to Fiddlers Green and use the carpark there for your convenience. The actual net pull will get underway around 8:30 am starting with the smaller of the two ponds. If you have waders please bring them along with gloves\, a hat\, water and mosquito repellant. DESCRIPTION:Maura Qualls and Ann Weaver will lead a walking tour through the Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve Butterfly Habitat at 9:00 am\, meeting at the Members entrance area. Join us as we examine the many plants\, flowers\, and pollinators that are present in our garden. We will offer discussions on how you can establish your own native butterfly and pollinator habitat and will provide an up-close look at nectar and host plants\, both native and Florida friendly. Please bring your binoculars\, cameras\, water bottles\, sunscreen\, and bug repellent. All participants should wear comfortable\, protective attire\, especially footwear.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve
DESCRIPTION:A 1-hour guided walk along mowed trails through diverse upland habitats and freshwater ponds that connect to brackish Lemon Creek.  Visitors can observe native and Florida-friendly plants\, vibrant wildflowers\, and butterflies in dedicated habitats\, while spotting upland and wading birds\, insects\, reptiles and other wildlife.  We discuss ongoing research such as the juvenile Tarpon “net pull”.  Highlights often include panoramic views from the Labyrinth on the Hill and insights into ongoing habitat restoration efforts\, providing an engaging overview of LBC’s Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve.
