Thank you to the Charlotte Community Foundation for providing a $6,800 Hurricane Ian Relief Grant to rebuild our maintenance equipment shed at Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve! Our old shed was completely destroyed by the hurricane, leaving our volunteers no place to store our trail mower, trimmers, and other maintenance tools.
Under the leadership of Lary Stuhlmiller, a volunteer team has worked through the spring to rebuild the shed and add features to make it more usable. Coke Wilson, Malcolm Collingwood, Bob Worthley, Bob Ihlenburg, Dana Houkal, Mark Horan, and Joe Gallagher, along with other volunteers and visiting guests formed a willing team to rebuild this important asset for our ongoing volunteer maintenance work at the preserve.
The new shed includes windows for improved visibility, larger doors for improved equipment access, and solar panels to recharge batteries and tools. Gutters and rain barrels have also been added to provide a water supply for our native planting projects.
North Port Lowe’s provided special pricing incentives on supplies and deliveries for this effort, and we very much appreciate their support!
The preserve sustained major damages from the hurricane. The generous support provided by the Charlotte Community Foundation and Lowe’s is helping us restore the preserve as a beautiful place to visit and explore our beautiful environment!
