The Charlotte Harbor Estuaries Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Network is looking for volunteers to perform water testing at various sites within the Lemon Bay Aquatic Preserve. This monitoring project provides important data to state and local agencies regarding the health and safety of our local waters. Begun in 1996, the project is a cooperative effort of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve Office, the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center, South West Florida Water Management District’s Surface Water Improvement Program, and the Coastal and Heartland National Estuary Partnership.
The water quality testing occurs once a month at dawn throughout the year and requires participation in a 2-hour training session. No prior experience is necessary, and all equipment and training will be provided by our partner agency, Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center. Testing sites can be accessed from the shoreline. Volunteers will be organized in teams to allow flexible scheduling and participation by seasonal residents. This is interesting, vital work that contributes to a healthier environment for all. The next training session will be held 1:00-3:00 p.m. September 28, 2023 at Cedar Point Environmental Center, 2300 Placida Road, Englewood, FL 3422.You can help to make a difference!
