Join the Lemon Bay Conservancy and guide Dr. Bill Dunson on a nature walk at Manasota Scrub Preserve/East. Meet in the parking lot just a few yards from Manasota Beach Rd (2695 Bridge Street, Englewood). Walk a 1.5-mile loop through mesic pine flatwoods and visit three wetlands. We will discuss wetland types and plant classification by degree of specialization for wetland life. One wetland is deeper and constructed. The other two are natural; but one is severely impacted by groundwater pumping. The other remains relatively pristine. We will identify all animals and plants encountered and discuss ecosystem function in the area. This event is free, and all are welcome. The trail is flat sand/dirt and is primarily shaded but plan for hot weather. No reservations required. A waiver must be signed. No dogs or smoking/vaping please.
