Join us for this informative guided tour on “Succession” at Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve on Thursday January 18, 2024 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Succession is a ‘nonseasonal’ directional change and continuous pattern of colonization and extinction at a particular site by populations. Together we will explore the local replacement of populations in a regular sequence following the opening of a space that was created through the disturbance caused during the conservation efforts at Wildflower Preserve. We will examine this basic question of interest; Are patterns of replacement predictable and what is the underlying factors that accounts for these changes?
Dr. Bill Dunson will guide us through the successional process as we view the response of the Preserve to disturbances that open areas for invasion, or reoccupation of certain plants and organisms. Please be sure to wear appropriate footwear, sunscreen, bug repellent, and a hat.
