Jaws and Saws: The Secret Lives of Nearshore Sharks and Sawfish
Please join us on February 26th as Andrew Wooley from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission introduces us to research underway on our Coastal Sharks, Sawfish, and other important species.

Andrew and a Tiger Shark
Andrew’s presentation will discuss FWC’s Nearshore Bottom Longline Survey and smalltooth sawfish monitoring projects.
FWC joined the Gulf-wide SEAMAP Bottom Longline Survey in 2024 and after two successful years of sampling, the team is looking forward to kicking off a third year of sampling this April. The long-term continuation of this survey will provide data on abundance, habitat use, and migrations of coastal sharks and other important species. Andrew is coupling this broad information with his specific research work on the ontogenetic habitat shifts of smalltooth sawfish.
The seminar will be held at the Cape Haze Community Center, located at 180 Spyglass Alley, Placida, FL 33946. Refreshments are served at 5:30 pm. The presentation begins at 6:00 pm.
