Volunteer Dana Houkal has prepared an initial draft report on the 2023 field plantings at Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve. Twenty native species were planted in seven planting areas at the preserve at sites with varying soil moisture levels, from very dry conditions on Duckweed Mound to very moist conditions near Lemon Creek.
Plantings were completed in July, and this preliminary report describes results as of September 24, 2023.
With the exception of Lizard’s tail, a wetland plant that grows at pond edges, the plantings are surviving well, despite the unusually dry summer conditions and the deluge of rainfall received as Hurricane Idalia passed by our area.
