A New Nature Wonderland: Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve
The remarkable changes happening at the old Wildflower Golf Course property are so dramatic that we’ve decided to give the preserve a new name: Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve.
The new name recognizes the greatly expanded estuarine habitats in Lemon Creek and acknowledges our link to both the old golf course and the many wildflowers growing on the site.
Under the guidance of the Southwest Florida Water Management District, the habitat restoration project at the preserve continues to move forward well. The project remains on track for completion by year-end 2020.
The bridge funded by our LBC members and donors is nearing completion in the estuarine area and our volunteers are actively working on the new preserve trails. Wetland plantings should begin before month end, with additional upland plantings targeted for December.
