We’re Looking to Capture Images
of Our More Reticent Residents and Visitors
Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve is certainly a special place. But wildflowers, and the birds and butterflies they attract, are just part of the allure of this reclaimed property. Those who’ve walked its many trails and observed its various ponds have likely seen alligators, turtles, rabbits, raccoons, gopher tortoises, snakes, raptors, waterbirds, and many other creatures. Bobcats and coyotes have been spied on the preserve, and wild hogs have been persistent visitors, requiring trapping at times.
In late 2025, Preserve Manager Chad Lyman saw, and took a brief video of, a bobcat at the preserve, prompting me to suggest that we set up a trail camera (also known as a “camera trap”) to see if we could get more images of the cat, as well as of the wild hogs that he suspected were visiting the property.
In early January we put a camera up in a place that Chad suggested, and in ten days got dozens of images, including a couple of a large boar hog in daylight, wood storks in the morning, and raccoons at night and during the day. No bobcat, though.
Since then we’ve put up two more trail cameras and have had a diversity of wildlife sightings, many of them, of course, at night. Below are some of our first images. New trail cam photos will be posted here from time to time, so check back occasionally to see what’s been happening.

- Our wildlife trail cameras are motion-sensitive and set to take still images or videos. They’re situated in off-trail locations not likely to be traversed by preserve visitors. If you happen upon a wildlife trail camera, please do not disturb it or the area being photographed.
- This project has been approved by the Directors of Lemon Bay Conservancy to help learn more about wildlife matters at Wildflower Preserve, and to engage LBC members by publishing images of wildlife at the preserve. Individuals are not permitted to set up their own motion-sensing trail cameras.
